Frequently Asked Questions

A Brief History of:

Boose Aluminum Foundry Company, Inc. was founded in 1933 by Oran and Kathryn Boose.  The Company was first located in a two-room building behind their home in Reamstown, PA.  Initially, the Company cast small knickknacks and trivets such as dogs, birds, whistles, book-ends, door stops, banks and ashtrays.   Unfortunately, three years after operations began, a fire destroyed the building.

Undaunted by this set back, the Boose family constructed a two-room concrete block building at its present site.  The Company then started to produce commercial castings for the hand tool, air compressor and boiler industries.

By 1940, the Company doubled in size by producing brass and iron castings to complement its aluminum casting line.  During World War II, due to the demand for metal-products, the Company again doubled its capacity.  The entire facility was utilized for the production of high quality aluminum sand castings.  During the war years, the Company served its country well and was awarded the Navy "E" for Excellence.

During the 1950's, demands set forth by the Korean conflict resulted in another major expansion program.  A large coreroom and additional molding facilities were added.

Upon the death of Oran Boose in 1965, the responsibility of operating the business fell on the shoulders of his wife, Kathryn and his son, Vernon, both active officers of the Corporation.  The Company embarked upon an extensive reorganization program.  A well-rounded Board of Directors was formed.  The Company hired a Foundry Engineer, Plant  Manager and Sales Manager.  Also, the company began to mechanize its molding operation.

During the early 70's, the sales force was expanded and by 1977, the dream of its founder became a reality with production of over 1,000,000 pounds of aluminum castings per year.

Boose looked to the future with hopes of carving an even greater niche for itself in a rapidly expanding world-wide industry.  With the 80's came the addition of an automatic molding department, which could be operated independently from the rest of the facility.

Today the Company continues to supply aluminum castings to the military and commercial markets.  The Company utilized the latest techniques in automatic and no-bake molding and sand reclamation.

Boose Aluminum Foundry Company, Inc. continues to be a family-owned business entering into its third generation of Management.  The Company is dedicated to the Pennsylvania Dutch Tradition of the hard work and strong family values, proud of its past accomplishments and ready and willing to meet the demands of  today and challenges of   tomorrow.
